The Hermosa Beach Amateur Radio Association was founded in October 2007. 

The Association is established to encourage the hobby of amateur radio and electronics, to promote disaster preparedness and emergency response, and provide disaster communication workers for the City of Hermosa Beach and the County of Los Angeles.

The Association seeks to advance the hobby of amateur radio and electronics in general to all interested parties.  To that end those interested in learning about electronics and amateur radio may attend non-business meetings where the electronics hobby is promoted to the public.

The Association is open for membership to FCC licensed amateur radio operators as well as any non-licensed interested persons.

Establish a group of local residents with a common interest in amateur radio for the purpose of:

  1. Promoting the amateur radio hobby.

  2. Encouraging more interest in the community in amateur radio

  3. Developing a program with young residents to promote the hobby including support to a training program.

  4. Supporting the City Emergency programs.

  5. Assisting in establishing an EOC

  6. Assisting in the operation of the EOC

  7. Providing technical support to the EOC equipment.

  8. Having social functions to promote fun and enjoyment

  9. Keeping up with progress and changes in ham radio equipment and procedures

  10. Innovating applications in amateur, such as mobile transceiver mounting, antenna selection

  11. Practice emergency simplex operation within the city without the aid of repeaters to find optimum transmission points in the city.

  12. Promoting interests in electronics like computer hardware construction, electronic games, internet surfing as a cyber encyclopedia
